Nourish is working hard this school year to feature Sheboygan Area School District’s Harvest of the month. The SASD’s website displays the harvest of the month and offers educational sheets for elementary and secondary education students along with a preparation sheet. SASD features the Harvest of the Month on their lunch menus. Nourish adds these items to our list of featured produce for both Snack Attack and the Weekend Food Backpack Program. For both, we offer nutrition, growing, and cooking information along with an example of the whole, raw produce for the students to see, touch, and smell.
In February, we’re featuring beets in a moist, rich Chocolate Beet Cake and parsnips in a delicious, savory Parsnip Soup for our Snack Attack Program. The items show up again that same week for some of the same students in our Backpack program along with other wholesome food.
We hope that multiple exposure to the feature fruits and vegetables will help the students embrace healthy, good food and increase the likelihood they’ll embrace it at home too.
